Will Apple do away with FireWire?

A lot of discussions about Apple hardware as of last has focused on whether or not Apple would drop FireWire ports from their upcoming laptop lines. Many believe that they will and, of course, many believe that Apple will not drop FireWire.

I am not sure if Apple will drop FireWire or not. I think it would not be a wise move to drop it, because all of the current consumer, prosumer, and high-end video equipment use FireWire connectivity in one form or another.

New keyboard tricks for OS X

I was reading some posts at MacCast forums today and learned some new tricks to working with OS X using the keyboard.

  • Control-F2 – highlights the Apple menu. You can use the arrow keys to move between the different menu options.
  • Control-F3 – highlights the Finder in the Dock. You can then use the arrow keys to move between items in the Dock. Press enter to launch the selected application.
  • Control-F4 – scrolls through open window

Update: I came across another tip tonight if running a Power Mac. Use Option-Command-Eject to put your Mac to sleep.

Wikipedia is about as good a source of accurate information as Britannica, the venerable standard-bearer of facts about the world around us, according to a study published this week in the journal Nature.

    Safari Tip

    I came across a small trick tonight. If you happen to load a page in Safari that ends up being wider than your current width, you can hold the Shift key and then scroll horizontally if you have a scroll wheel on your mouse.
