OpenOffice.org has released their first Aqua based version for Mac. Of course, in big red letters, they warn you that this version could trash your system and/or delete your data. It is, of course, an alpha version. However, considering how long we have waited, I think I will take the risk and try it out.

I found a new add-on for Firefox recently. It is called Performancing. It is a pretty full-featured blogging utility that allows you to blog right within Firefox from any location on the Internet. I had an issue trying to setup Performancing with my BlogHarbor weblog. I did some searching and came across the Demo page at BlogHarbor.com that gives a perfect explanation of how to setup Performancing to work with BlogHarbor.

While listening to the latest TWiT #71 today, I heard Ray Slakinski, of iPodderX fame, talking about the future of Transistr. He mentioned that he and August plan to have something released by the end of the year. They have been working on bugs and trying to make it a “piece of software you would want to download and use”.
I guess we will have to wait and see what happens.

Apple released an upgrade to QuickTime 7.1 and Security Update 2006-003 today. You can get it from Software Update on your Mac or from Apple Downloads.

Adobe announced Photoshop Elements 4 for the Mac today. It will be released in March.

Apple today released updates to the iLife '06 applications. Most of the updates deal with speed and stability enhancements. The updates are available via Software Update or from the Apple Support Downloads site.

Tivo today released Tivo Desktop version 1.9.2. This release includes support for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. Currently, it is only available for G5 based systems. They do not have a version that supports the Intel based Macs as of yet.

Apple released Backup 3.1 today via Software Update. According to Apple, “Backup 3.1 delivers added support for some backup destinations and addresses file restoration and other issues.”

Mozilla.org today has released their first suite based on code from the former “Mozilla Application Suite”. Seamonkey is available for Mac OS X, Linux, Windows, and other systems today.
